Please Help Abood and His Family
United States
My name is Abdul Jabbar Al-Zarii, and I am 19 years old. I live in Dair Al-Balah, Gaza. For as long as I can remember, my dream has been to finish school, study medicine with a specialization in radiology, and eventually travel to achieve my goals. But everything changed on the 7th of October. The war took away everything I had—my dreams, my education, and tragically, my close family members. What once was a bright future now feels like an endless nightmare. Instead of focusing on my studies and aspirations, I find myself fighting just to survive. My heart aches for the life I lost, and the future I once imagined feels so far out of reach. I need your help to escape this nightmare. I am seeking funding to leave Gaza, continue my education abroad, and rebuild my life. I want the chance to live as a normal young person again, to pursue my dreams, and to honor the memory of those I lost. Your support will not just help me continue my education, but will also help me find hope and purpose again.

Support Abood: A Young Man Who Deserves a Future
Hi, I’m Maya, a mom of six based in Oregon. Abood is a truly extraordinary young man who has touched the hearts of the international community. I consider him family, and it’s been an honor to witness the excellence he brings to everything he does. Abood was a high school student excelling in his studies, dreaming of becoming a medical doctor and radiologist. With the destruction of schools, universities, and medical training centers in Gaza, Abood has had to adapt in unimaginable ways.
Instead of continuing his education, Abood has stepped up to become a seasoned community advocate. He founded a pop-up grade school, partners with NGOs to create food initiatives from scratch, and selflessly provides meals like juice and shawarma lunches to elders without families. His viral videos show heartwarming scenes of children dancing and laughing, teachers sharing lessons in makeshift schools, and grandmothers reminiscing in charming English.
Hajjaj School for Peace and Promise
In memory of his martyred 7-year-old nephew, Abood founded the Hajjaj School for Peace and Promise, serving the entire Sara’s Camp in Deir al-Balah. The school welcomed at least 80 children each day, offering them a safe place to learn, play, and heal from the trauma of occupation and violence. Through games, songs, and play therapy, Abood helped these children process their experiences and build resilience.
Abood’s Daily Dedication
Abood works tirelessly, often putting in 15-hour days to support his community. He distributes food – bags filled with potatoes, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, eggplant, lemon, and green peppers – to families who have lost their homes and livelihoods. Despite the unimaginable loss of his loved ones, including his nephew Hajjaj, brother-in-law, uncles, and cousins, Abood continues his work with an unwavering commitment to helping others.
Abood also helps his sister, Azza, a biology teacher, care for her children, Mariam and Saed. He is also an admired videographer, sharing daily life in Gaza on Instagram (@abood._.k_17).
Abood’s Dream
Abood deserves the chance to achieve his dream of becoming a medical professional. He has shown a deep commitment to serving others, and I believe his future is one of hope and healing. I know Abood from my work with global youth leaders, where we collaborated on lunch, play therapy, and art workshops. Abood’s generosity knows no bounds, and though I’ve seen him give so much already, I know he will continue to bring light to the world.
A Path to Safety and a Future
I am actively working to bring Abood to the U.S. so he may finish his high school education, attend university, and eventually pursue his medical studies here in Oregon. However, this plan requires urgent funding to ensure Abood’s family survives until borders reopen and to secure their evacuation.
I truly believe Abood embodies the best of humanity, and now it’s our turn to help him. Please join me in supporting Abood’s urgent survival needs and helping him escape this nightmare to create the future he so deserves.
With gratitude, Maya
